BIOFABRIQUE VIENNA is a pilot project for material innovation that is based on a bioregional design approach from Atelier LUMA. In a process lasting one hundred days during the Klima Biennale Wien, new architectural and design materials were developed from underused urban resources. The central idea of the project: Materials are heavy and should remain in situ, whereas ideas are light and can travel. In this way, a co-creative process involving a knowledge pool made up of mentors and students together with national and international experts from the creative industries, science, the public sector, and business significantly shortened the development phase.

The exhibition shows the results of material research and provides an insight into the development process. The materials are being used for the first time in the hospitality area of the Festival Headquarters of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK that has been designed by studio dreiSt.

BIOFABRIQUE VIENNA is a pilot project of the Vienna Business Agency and Atelier LUMA, a program of LUMA Arles, in partnership with TU Wien (Institute of Architectural Design).
