Vincent Wagner’s animation paints an atmospheric picture of the Danube as a key citizen within a larger whole.

Vincent Wagner’s animation invites viewers to experience the river from different perspectives. The deliberately open-ended setting highlights the Danube as a shared habitat for all that exists in the water, as well as for life along its banks. The animation’s gentle movements mirror the calm yet unstoppable flow of the river, while the music picks up on and amplifies its rhythm. The result is an atmospheric portrayal of the Danube as a citizen: present, influential, and, at the same time, part of a larger context.

The VIENNA DESIGN WEEK is presenting this project as part of DONAURAUM, a group of projects that explore the river that defines Vienna.

The animation was created as part of a collaboration between the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK and the Klima Biennale Wien. It builds upon the Declaration of the Rights of Citizen Danube, which was developed by Katja Schechtner and Alex Putzer (citizennature.org) for the Klima Biennale Wien.
