Through four hands-on workshops, Miki Martinek highlights her love for (Japanese) design and the shared experience of creative processes.

Miki Martinek is as much a part of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK as the festival is part of the city. Now in its twentieth year, the designer continues to offer educational programs in which she uses the design mediation method to create accessible opportunities to experience creative processes together and discover new perspectives. Martinek’s connection to Japanese design culture is reflected in two workshops: In addition to the Japanese furoshiki wrapping and carrying cloth – a workshop held in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Vienna – she also explores urushi, a craft that involves working with natural lacquer derived from tree resin. Two hands-on workshops on woodturning and glass design will also take place in the studios of experienced experts. Participation in the workshops is free.

The traditional Japanese furoshiki is a square cloth used for wrapping and as a carrying bag.
