FLOATING SCULPTURES

Studio Weholo

25.9.–4.10.2020

The two young guys from Studio Weholo were always to be found in the Festival Headquarters in the Amtshaus Theresienbadgasse. The box room of the former caretaker’s apartment on the first floor of the Amtshaus proved to be a perfect space for their interactive installation, which enabled visitors to draw a virtual sculpture, simply by moving their hands. This was made possible by a virtual box, which adapts to the vantage point of each user as a means of simulating the real perspective. Hand movements were then translated into forms – and, as a result, the recipients into artists. The Weholo team, which also, incidentally, programmed the festival app for VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2020 was always on hand, ready to help. A generated QR code enabled one to see the sculpture that one had created on a smartphone (augmented reality) and, subsequently, to take it home.
