FOREST DESIGN – BECOMING A NATURE CYBORG
Studio BOXQ
- Workshop: 2.–3.10.2026, 10am–1pm
Waldspielplatz Hörndlwald
Nature has been designing for 3.8 billion years. It's time to learn from it for the future.
Vienna is full of design. But it’s easy to overlook the city’s oldest design studio. It has no website, no portfolio – just 3.8 billion years of experience – and plenty of strategies that work. Otherwise, it wouldn’t still be here: nature. What if that’s precisely where the skills we need for the future lie? Adaptation, cooperation, resilience, and regeneration are skills that no artificial intelligence can take over for us, but that every ecosystem has mastered for millions of years.
In this workshop, participants head outside with a red frame in hand and a question in mind: Which skill do I want to strengthen? In response to a professional, personal, or creative challenge they’re currently facing, they search for answers in nature and then discuss them as a group: Why does this system work? And what does that mean for me? The result is a personal Nature Cyborg – a conceptual model that combines natural intelligence, human intelligence, and artificial intelligence.
The workshop introduces nature-integrated design, life-centered design, and biomimicry as a design method, requires no prior knowledge, and is aimed at anyone who senses that the future will be complex and that the best answers aren’t found in their social media feed.
