Make space for life: “FRAKTA” reimagined!

For the fifth time, IKEA is partnering with VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, Austria’s largest curated design festival. This year’s collaboration focuses on the question of how we can rethink organization today. The starting point for this is the “FRAKTA” bag – an object that, like few others, embodies pragmatism, mobility, and practicality for everyday use.

Exploring questions of movement, storage, and structure, this installation spans multiple spaces, combining architecture, furniture design, and material research to demonstrate how order can be reimagined today. The iconic blue IKEA bag is transformed into a new storage system for everyday life—personal, flexible, and practical. Along with ten other projects nominated from the open call, the winning project by Lisa Stolz and Juan Vértiz is on display at the IKEA exhibition at the Festival Headquarters.

Workshop with Lisa Klingersberger:
Create your own individual FRAKTA bag using pleating techniques.

For IKEA, Lisa Klingersberger will host four workshops during VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, where participants can experiment with pleating techniques using the classic “FRAKTA” bag. No previous experience is required, and each participant can take their bag home with them.

FRAKTA Creative Transformation Workshop

Rethink the iconic FRAKTA bag with the help of an inspiring guide. By shifting perspectives and experimenting creatively, participants develop surprising ideas, new functions, and innovative interpretations of the IKEA classic.
