A sculptural installation made of bio-based materials integrates herb and vegetable gardening into everyday urban life.
 
With GROW AND GATHER, the Slovak design and research studio Crafting Plastics! demonstrates in the garden of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK Festival Headquarters how bio-based materials can be used as infrastructure for urban farming. The installation consists of sculptural growing structures in which edible herbs and vegetables grow entirely without soil. Hosted by Alice Stori Lichtenstein (Schloss Hollenegg for Design), the project comprises a performative brunch, during which the produce grown in the installation is harvested, prepared by a guest chef, and enjoyed together at the table. In this way, the artwork becomes a collective experience of growing, harvesting, and eating.
