With four workshops and a special cocktail event, paper republic invites visitors to a sensory exploration of analog creativity.

paper republic is known for its durable, refillable notebooks and leather journals, which are designed in Vienna and crafted by hand. To mark the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK – for which the label has designed a special anniversary notebook – paper republic is opening the doors to its flagship store, la maison, designed by Laura Karasinski. On five dates, Michael Laubsch (ROTLICHT), Daniel Carreño (paper republic), Ana Barros (Matriarchive), Christiane Wery (prater&stern), and Liza Borovskaya-Brodskaya (LizaCutz) will invite visitors to experience contemporary – handmade! – design through special workshops and a talk. The paid workshops cover a range of topics, from analog photography and leathercraft to screen printing and paper collages.

Workshop “Analog Photography”: Fri 25.9., 1pm–6pm 

Michael Laubsch (ROTLICHT – Festival for Analog Photography) introduces participants to the basics of analog photography. During the subsequent walk through downtown Vienna, participants put their newly acquired knowledge into practice.

Workshop “Make Your Own Leather Journal”: Mon 28.9., 4pm–5.30pm

Under the guidance of Daniel Carreño (paper republic), participants will craft their own “Grand Voyageur” leather journal. In the process, they’ll learn about the craftsmanship behind paper republic’s products and customize their journal with a personalized embossing design.

Talk “Real Community”: Tue 29.9., 7pm–8pm

What does community mean beyond just a buzzword? In this talk, Ana Barros, the founder of Matriarchive, reflects on building an authentic, creative collective of over forty women from the fields of architecture, art, photography, design, and research. Drawing on the history of Matriarchive and its first physical location in Vienna, the Palais Stella, she discusses how meaningful communities emerge through shared commitment, care, and collaboration – rather than through marketing.

Workshop “Print Your Own Tote Bag”: Wed 30.9., 2pm–5pm 

Textile designer Christiane Wery (prater&stern) will teach the basics of stencil screen printing. Using selected designs and a color palette inspired by paper republic, participants will print their own tote bags.

Under the name LizaCutz, graphic designer and illustrator Liza Borovskaya-Brodskaya creates abstract and figurative paper collages. In her workshop, she shares her artistic approach while participants create their own collages.
