Miki Martinek has been looking behind the scenes of the design world for a decade and a half. And the designer has been surprising us at the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK with a constant stream of new editions and educational formats for almost as long. This year, Martinek presents an artistic production in her studio consisting of multimedia set pieces and influences from Japanese culture. The aim of the joyful presentation is to strengthen the cooperation between actors on the design scene and to shed more light on their work against the background of Martinek’s activities as a designer and as a teacher at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In both contexts, her practice focuses on methods of design mediation – the sensing, addressing, and satisfying of needs. Hereby, the process and the finished product are equally important. In short: Miki Martinek aspires to bring to life the things that the world now needs, wants, or desires!
