Paris, 1925: Exactly 100 years ago, the LOBMEYR exhibition at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris wowed visitors with its incredibly delicate glassware, for which LOBMEYR was awarded the Grand Prix for glass. The 1925 event was formative for the Art Deco style – only objects of a new style were allowed to be shown. Josef Hoffmann, Oswald Haerdtl, and Oskar Strnad, who were responsible for the success of the presentation, were strongly inspired by the groundbreaking “No. 4” drinking service designed by Ludwig Lobmeyr in 1854. The Viennese salonnière and journalist Bertha Zuckerkandl wrote that Hoffmann had created rooms that showed the “magic of materials” and saw a new style in the abstract forms, many of which were designed by artists from the Wiener Werkstätte. LOBMEYR is still known today for its delicate muslin glass, on which the designs of that time are based. Cheers to that!
