Design for the little ones: From Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky’s 1950s children’s house to contemporary Austrian designs for children’s chairs.

The Vienna Furniture Museum is putting children’s design in the spotlight: In 1953, architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky designed the St. Pölten children’s house by upcycling a villa that had once belonged to the director of the Erste Österreichische Glanzstoff-Fabrik. This contribution ties in with the current exhibition “Made in Austria – Furniture Design 1948 to 1960”, dedicated to postwar furniture design, as well as the annual theme “Upcycling Design”, and also showcases new chairs for children by Austrian designers
