VIENNA DESIGN WEEK and OPEN HOUSE WIEN are opening the doors to a special renovation project in Hietzing.
 

Every year, OPEN HOUSE WIEN makes buildings accessible that are otherwise closed to the public for one weekend in September – no registration required, free of charge, and open to everyone. Visitors can explore newly completed buildings, structures serving a wide variety of purposes and dating from various eras, as well as repurposed buildings, renovated properties, and historic structures. It is quite rare, as in this case, to have the opportunity to tour a building in the midst of a transformation process: The three-story Haus Urwalek, now a designated historic landmark, whose striking design feature is the curved entrance porch, was completed in 1929 according to plans by Siegfried Theiss and Hans Jaksch and is considered part of the New Objectivity movement. The tour as part of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK will take place in the presence of the architects from joyjoy studio, who are overseeing the renovation. Admission is free, no registration is required.

Attention: Construction Site! From the entrance, take the staircase directly up to the rooftop terrace. All interior rooms are under construction and strictly off-limits. Sturdy footwear is required for the tour!
