New in Vienna: Sobek & Schnurl. As the opening exhibition of the recently launched concept store, the founders, Victor Sobki and Caroline Carnbring, will take the public on a journey through design, crafts and art from Egypt. Their aim is to draw attention to the styles and trends in art and design available in Egypt and to introduce their products to the Austrian market. The work of Egyptian architect and interior designer Victor Sobki is characterised in particular by the combination of oriental and art deco elements with modern techniques. Inspired by Sobki's artistic environment, Caroline Carnbring, an Austrian with Swedish roots, designs Kilim carpets that are hand-knotted in the Nile Delta.

The exhibition also presents contemporary artists who draw inspiration for their creative work from Egypt's rich artistic heritage. Many of the objects on display are modern interpretations of traditional craftsmanship that can be traced back several hundred years. The VIENNA DESIGN WEEK will feature works by Walid Taher (paintings and digital art), Ahmed Ezzat and Ahmed Shalaby (pop art and digital art), Nicha Sursock (caricatures), Heba Helmi (ceramics), Amal Akhnoukh (mosaics) and Suzanne El Masry (costume jewellery).
