20 years of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, 210 years of Rudolf Scheer & Söhne: In a celebratory retrospective, South Tyrolean artist Walter Thaler and the Viennese bespoke shoe manufacturer trace their intertwined paths.
 
While the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Rudolf Scheer & Söhne is marking its 210th. To honor these milestones, the former imperial and royal custom shoe manufacturer on Bräunerstraße is looking back – and celebrating a special collaboration that began with the joint Passionswege project with South Tyrolean artist Walter Thaler. Since the presentation of the multisensory installation WEAR SENSES at the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2009, Thaler and the seventh-generation family-run business have maintained an ongoing dialogue between design, craftsmanship, and art. The retrospective now commemorates their past collaborative projects, while new works are also being created on-site. Amid the comforting scent of leather and the rhythmic hammering from the rarely accessible workshop, this gem in the city center is once again brought to life as a place of design. 

In addition to the regular opening hours, guided tours will be offered on 3.10. and 4.10. by special agreement at scheer@scheer.at.
