For one evening, Mühlbauer will open their workshop on Schwedenplatz and offer a glimpse into the craft of hatmakers and modists. A special highlight will be the collaborative Passionswege project with Tomáš Král.

For one evening, Mühlbauer opens its workshop and offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes. Visitors are free to come and go as they please, watch the artisans at work, and chat with Mühlbauer’s design team (Nora Berger, Selma Klima, and Klaus Mühlbauer). This highlights what has set the Passionswege apart since its inception: the exchange of creative ideas, artisanal expertise, and diverse perspectives on a traditional craft.

To mark the 20th anniversary of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, Mühlbauer is also bringing the 2011 Passionswege project with Tomáš Král back from the archives. Král, who was already known at the time for his experimental approach to materials and traditional manufacturing techniques, collaborated with Mühlbauer to offer a new perspective on the craft of hat-making. He subverted or modified the purpose of the hats – and did so with wit.

Passionswege Perspectives: To mark its 20th anniversary, the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK has invited five Passionswege pairings to look back on their shared history and reflect on the relationships that the format has fostered between artisans and designers.
