Lotte Kristoferitsch, Heribert Wolfmayr, and Oliver Gerner share a radical approach as an expression of attitude: indispensable values in the design process in order to translate innovation into reality. The result of this shared vision and pioneering work is the new residential building “Stadtregal” in Vienna’s urban development area VILLAGE IM DRITTEN, where the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK was hosted last year with its Festival Headquarters. The residential complex innovatively combines social and ecological cycles with functional diversity, climate-resilient developments, and ecology on many levels. The architectural firms GERNER GERNER PLUS. and heri&salli are responsible for the architecture of the “Stadtregal”. For the first time, the groundbreaking urine-separating toilet “save!” – developed by EOOS DESIGN, LAUFEN, and the water research institute Eawag at ETH Zurich – is also being used extensively here. The talk focuses on the need for a radical approach to design and architecture in order to turn visions into reality.
