REFORM STANDARD

29.9.2020, 6pm

In the context of the new cooperative exhibition CREATIVE CLIMATE CARE, graduates of the University of Applied Arts Vienna occupied the MAK GALLERY between June and December in the form of five consecutive pop-up exhibitions that addressed pressing issues related to climate, environment, and sustainability as well as the vital contribution of design, architecture, and art to the shaping of a new way of thinking about active climate care. As part of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK 2020, the designer and architect Chien-hua Huang offered an exclusive guided tour of his exhibition “Reform Standard”. The recent graduate spoke about the ability of the waste industry to promote recyclability and the potential for using artificial intelligence to holistically consider the lifecycles of materials such as plastics and, hence, to revolutionize the definition of “zero waste”. The tour offered visitors firsthand insight into design cycles. The project used drawings, physical models, and videos to demonstrate the different ways in which humans and machines perceive waste and the potential that is either lost or newly created as a result.
