Students at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) are designing tools, molds, and rituals for baking cakes.

Recipes travel. They cross borders, generations, and kitchens. Whether written down on paper, memorized, or passed down at the table – they form a kind of intangible, mobile cultural heritage. “From the raw ingredients to the shape and the tools, all the way to the finished cake, we’re witnessing a continuous transformation. We create the molds that give the batter its shape, and then we return them to where they belong: in the oven.” There will be cake – and everyone is invited!

Accompanying the exhibition, there will be a cake tasting every day starting at 3.30pm.

The project was developed as part of a course taught by Anne-Sophie Oberkrome, Lisa Ertel (Studio Œ), and Simon Gehring at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG). The work of students from the Product Design and Communication Design departments will be presented for the first time as part of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK.
