Students demonstrate how typography shapes readability and how type can have an impact beyond the text itself.

Reading – or, more precisely, the process of deciphering symbols – seems to be such an everyday activity that we hardly notice it consciously. But what design decisions need to be considered, and how can type be set in a way that makes it easy to read? What is legibility, and what is readability? And what is the opposite – how can type be used in design to go far beyond simply conveying text? Students in the bachelor’s program in Graphic and Information Design at the New Design University (NDU) in St. Pölten are exploring these questions.
