GAST 2025

Frankfurt RheinMain in Vienna: Most recently, not only nation states – such as Switzerland or Finland in previous years – have been invited to showcase their design scenes at the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, but also cross-border regions, districts, and areas – or, as in 2025, the next World Design Capital. Every two years, the World Design Organization awards this title to a city or region.

On its way toward its project year, the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 made a stop in Vienna with an exhibition and interactive program, offering – one hundred years after the groundbreaking urban planning initiative Neues Frankfurt, which also produced Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky’s pioneering kitchen – an in-depth look at the creative achievements of the metropolitan region.

Across various formats, the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK also increasingly featured designers from the environment of the upcoming World Design Capital 2026. Their participation in the Passionswege (Studio Kai Linke) and Stadtarbeit (studio pari–pari) formats made them a central part of this year’s festival.
