“Art and Decoration”, “Arts and Crafts”, “To the Exhibition Rooms”. What was written here in large letters on the façade was plain and simply the program happening behind it.
A firework of talks, workshops, installations, and exhibitions made the former Bothe & Ehrmann Exhibition Halls on Schloßgasse 14 into probably the most nuanced festival living room in the ten years of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK history. From the resplendent timber staircase to the stateroom, from marble emblem to the domed hall, the listed rooms of the former cabinetmakers to the monarchy became the pivot of Austria’s largest design festival, the hotspot for visitors from all over the world. An incandescent piece of luck, representing everything the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK has always aimed to stand for.
